September 2025 - IVF 2024 Online and Physical Video Market Figures Released

As part of the IVF's ongoing research activities, we are delighted to announce the release of the IVF 2024 Online and Physical Video Market Figures - see under Market Information. Comprehensive data at EU and national level have been compiled by the IVF's member associations, in close collaboration with the research company Omdia.

The film and audiovisual sector plays a key role in European economy and employment.  Research by EY, co-sponsored by the IVF, confirms that the sector is at the heart of innovation, digitization, cultural diversity, and entrepreneurship in Europe with a EUR 49.6 billion contribution to the European economy and 2 million direct and indirect jobs.

2024 saw the European video publishing sector grow by 13.2% in total consumer spending, reaching EUR 30.9 billion spent on physical carriers and online distribution models.  Continuing the trend of earlier years, consumer spending on physical formats contracted by 10.5% whereas consumer spending on digital distribution models grew by 14.1%.

The European video publishing sector is a growing business, currently experiencing double-digit annual growth in terms of consumer spending, with new online distribution models and physical formats constantly under development.  A healthy video market online and offline continues to play an indispensable role both in offering multiple and diverse access and price options to audiences, but also by ensuring a fundamental contribution to the overall economy and sustainability of the film and audiovisual sector.
